Portolan Project Kickstarter Launch Day

It’s launch day!!! Huzzah!!! I have some questions for you!

*****

Have you ever wished there was ‘someone like you’ in a book, or on the screen? Do you want the work of marginalized creators to be uplifted and supported?

Do you think creative writing programs are often wildly expensive? Do you believe that publishing access is often skewed towards already well-represented majority groups? (often just because ‘we know what sold last year, so it’s safest to just produce more of the same…’)

Would you love to hear directly from editors and agents, doing deep dives into the details of their working days?

Don’t you think it would be great if teachers had access to a host of FREE instructional materials to make it easier for them to include speculative literature in their classrooms? (Superheroes! Magic! Rocket ships!)

Do you believe that speculative fiction has the power to help us see all the problems we’re struggling with in this world, and also help us envision new solutions?

Shouldn’t reading and writing fantastic speculative fiction be freely accessible to as many people around the world as possible?

Then I hope you’ll come join us in supporting The Portolan Project. We’re building out a podcast and a host of other resources; we’re super-excited about building visions of a better future, together.

For lots more details, cool rewards, a video of me talking about this (very brief, I promise), please check out our Kickstarter for Phase 1!

(If it’s easier for you, please feel free to donate through Facebook as well, or on our website — it won’t count towards the Kickstarter, but that is OKAY. We’re a 501(c)3 non-profit, so donations are tax-deductible, and if your employer offers matching grants, we’d love it if you’d apply for those! Website donations here: https://speculativeliterature.org/donate/)

Every penny helps! Please contribute if you can.

We’d also LOVE it if you can help spread the word. The Facebook algorithms don’t want us to show you things unless we give them ad money, so please help us subvert the system — like, comment, and share!

Thanks so much, folks.
