Folks, we’ve got one week to go on our Kickstarter, and as you can see, we’re likely to make our goal, which is terrific! I think there’s a good chance we’ll hit it today, which will be very exciting. I’ve already started working with Meghan Lamb on developing the intro to fiction sequence; I think it’ll end up being 9 lessons, in three 3-week segments. It’s so great having the community support and believe in this project. Thank you.
But I’d really LOVE us to get to the first stretch goal too. I’m not sure if that’s realistic, given that it took us 3 weeks to get to $5000, the next goal is set at $10K. But if we get there, it’ll give us the funds to develop a Black Futures course this autumn as well, and I’d really love to do that.
I have a few interviews already to use as a base for the course, with Sheree Renée Thomas, Nalo Hopkinson, Andrea Hairston, Scott Woods — but there are several more people I’d love to interview for it, like Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki, Nnedi Okorafor, Nora Jemisin, Phenderson Djèlí Clark. I donate my time, but we pay Darius to record and edit the interviews, and then we pay teachers to build out the lessons that are based on the interview, so all of that takes cash.
If you’d like to see a free set of lessons on Black Futures, available to the world, I’d love it if you could help promote the last week of our Kickstarter! Every like, comment, and share helps!
