Students in my…

Students in my post-colonial class, here's the booklist. (There will also be lots of handouts.) You'll save a lot of money buying online instead of at the university bookstore, but order now, so you have the books in time for class. Thanks!

For most of these books, electronic editions are available -- you will need the text in class on multiple days, so it may be cheaper to buy a copy for a few dollars, rather than print it all. I'm also fine with you bringing laptops or e-readers to class. I recommend not trying to use your mobile phones for this purpose, though, as you're going to have a really hard time flipping through fast enough to keep up with what we're doing.

  • King Solomon's Mines, H. Rider Haggard (available free online at Project Gutenberg)
  • Bodies in Motion, Mary Anne Mohanraj
  • Leaving India, Minal Hajratwala
  • A Passage to India, E.M. Forster
  • Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe
  • The Lion and the Jewel, Wole Soyinka
  • A Small Place, Jamaica Kincaid
  • Evening is the Whole Day, Preeta Samarasan
  • the bone people, Keri Hulme
