Interesting. I never thought of that as passive-aggressive. It just seemed as though one was choosing to value friendship above the hypothetical possibility of a “relationship.” (The hidden assumption being that any overt move otherwise would most likely lead to immediate and irreversible rejection and termination of all contact.) Maybe there is a certain amount of dishonesty with oneself here, but it leads to the strategy of making explicit advances only towards someone one does not care much for, and won’t mind especially the above outcome.
I suppose this is more philosophy than this comic was intended to provoke…
