Good movie! Highly…

Good movie! Highly recommended! There's a wonderful honesty to Kureishi's work that I really appreciate; a sharpness that I don't see in most of the Indian writers I've been reading. I don't want to write like him, but I'd like to have that kind of clarity, and understanding of how cultures intersect and evolve. Reminded me in some ways of Chutney Popcorn, though more sophisticated.

I was productive and bought my registration and tickets for AWP; I have a long layover in Minneapolis -- four hours. Now that Kirstie's gone, I'm not sure if I know anyone in Minneapolis. It'd be nice to drag someone out to the airport to have coffee with me...but who's there? I'm sure there's someone, but I don't know who...and my Palm desktop software doesn't seem to know how to search the contacts list except by name. That's a shame, since searching by city or state would often be useful. In any case, I'll be in New Orleans from 3/6 - 3/9, and have several hours on 3/6 before the conference starts, for coffee and sight-seeing. Should be fun, even if I end up wandering alone. I've never been to New Orleans. I'll take the digital camera and be a proper tourist. Kevin thinks I should take off my shirt for beads, but I don't actually particularly want beads. We'll just have to wait and see how it goes...

Okay, go get groceries, drop them off, then off to campus for meetings and a job talk and maybe a little library research. It's snowing heavily, and part of me just wants to hide inside. But I'm not going to be that much of a wimp; the world may be cold and snowy, but I think I can take it.
