So, this is an initial thinking-things-through quick post, to be followed with more thorough thoughts. But one of the main things that I’m finding really frustrating about the publishing industry right now is the lack of clear guidelines I can use (and point my students to) for how to do indie & small press publishing effectively.
I’m talking about everything from book production to social media to publicity and more. I would very much like to find and/or create such guidelines (that we could host at the SLF).
It is, of course, an ever-changing landscape, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have to start with where we are now. And then adapt as things change.
- If you’re successful at this kind of thing, and willing to share tips, I’d love to hear from you.
- If there are resources you’ve run across that you recommend, please throw them in comments, and I’ll start building a list.
- If you’re willing to help with organizing this material for the SLF to host (even if you’re not a writer / editor / etc. yourself), I think this would be a great project for a group of volunteers to work on, and it’d keep me from drowning in yet-another-task.
Thoughts?
