I ended up getting three books at Omnivore Books yesterday — the first was The Food Almanac, on recommendation of the bookseller, when I asked for good food nonfiction, the second, the new edition of Best American Food Writing, which I try to keep up with (my competition, as I start trying to publish food essays), but the third is the one I’m most excited about.
Eating Asian America is going to offer some great texts I hope to cover with my students, and incidentally closes with an essay by Anita Mannur on my own “Monsoon Day” story from Bodies in Motion.
It’s honestly a little disconcerting reading academic analyses of my own work, but also quite delightful.
