I haven’t had a chance to even stop

I’m behind on everything, it feels like, but I haven’t actually dropped any critical balls yet, I think? I’m honestly not sure, because it’s been so hectic the last week that I haven’t had a chance to even stop and make decent to-do lists; I’ve just been going off what clearly needed to be done at any given moment (like buying a car to replace the one the dealer managed to total, and scheduling a therapist for my child who is having a tough time with issues caused by other people, gah), just rolling from one major item to the next.

BUT, I have sent my students their asynchronous assignments for Friday, and have now scheduled my Uber for tomorrow morning at 5:15. I have set my alarm for 4:45, I have packed my suitcase and set out the things to pack in my backpack in the morning, and I should be able to get on a plane at 7:05 and go to ICFA in Orlando. I have three days there, and then on Sunday, I fly to a writing retreat in northern California, where I’ll be until I fly home next Thursday (next week is UIC’s spring break).

All the plants have been watered (and Kevin has promised to water them again on Sunday, so they should survive). Kavi is getting on a plane tomorrow morning too, to go to Boston to present a science paper at MIT as part of her Bio Research Club, and I would post the abstract for you, but I’m not sure if it’s allowed; it’s pretty cool that she’s doing this.

Kevin is taking care of making sure she gets to her plane and gets home again, and he also made me dinner tonight (pictured: Costco Thai Mango salad kit supplemented with grilled flank steak and ripe mango), and he will also take care of everything else the kids need for the week I’m gone because he IS a hero of the revolution. (This includes taking Kavi and her friend to an Olivia Rodrigo concert. Greater love hath no father…)

I’ll be revising the Russ essay in the next few days (final revisions due on the 19th), and then I’m not sure what I’m going to be working on — part of what I need to do this week is assess all the writing projects I have going and make a real priority list, rather than the chaos of post-it notes (real and virtual) that I’ve been using for the last few years. It’s time. You’ll probably hear more about that soon.

I have a reading at ICFA at some point, but I honestly don’t know when right now, I guess I’ll figure out when I get there. If you see me working by the pool, I’m interruptible — if I don’t want to be interrupted, I’ll stay in my room to work. (I keep wanting to write interruptable, but Facebook insists that’s wrong, and I’m too tired to argue.)

Okay, I think my bath is full now, so I’m going to stop rambling at you and go take a bath and then try to get 5.5 hrs of sleep before my alarm goes off…
