Looking over my students’ theses for their first papers, and I almost didn’t do this step, because it’s a 400/500-level class, so surely they should all be able to construct a thesis by this point, but, um, apparently not. Almost all of them are going to need to take a second pass at this (and I suspect a third or fourth pass for some).
Maybe it’s the pandemic? A long time away from the classroom, and they’ve forgotten some of the basics? I’m honestly a little startled — looks like we’re going to have to do a lot of extra scaffolding to catch students up again, which means covering less content, which is a little sad, but needs must.
