In 2008, DesiLit…

In 2008, DesiLit received a generous grant from the Kiran Bavikatte Memorial Foundation, to help establish a reading / writing workshop series in Chicago. This spring, we featured diaspora authors Sugi Ganeshananthan (Love Marriage), Kirin Narayan (Love, Stars and All That; My Family and Other Saints), Boman Desai (The Memory of Elephants, A Woman Madly in Love), and Indian poet Vivek Narayanan (Universal Beach).

We'd like to bring out a few more authors this fall. To that end, we'd love to hear from you if you're a S. Asian or S. Asian diaspora author, have a book out in 2007/2008, and would like to come do a reading here in Chicago.

If selected, authors will receive airfare (within the U.S./Canada), plus housing for up to two nights with a host family in the city (if you prefer to pay for your own hotel room, you of course have that option as well). If you're interested in coming from further away, please do let me know; we can offer partial reimbursement of travel expenses. While in Chicago, we'll arrange a reading for you, and possibly other events.

Authors of any creative genre are welcome, from literary fiction to genre to children's to creative nonfiction to poetry. And yes, chapbooks count! :-) So if you'd like to come to Chicago in 2008, please drop me a line at info@desilit.org and let me know a little bit about you and your 2008 book, and which of these months you'd be available: September, October, and/or November.

Applications must be received by July 15th for full consideration. Thank you!
