Forgot to note that I had a two-hour conversation with Bob yesterday about the second draft of the novel. He liked it! He claims to like it a lot, actually. :-) The first sixty pages are clunky and slow and cliched, the ending is rushed, Shefali still needs to be figured out a bit more and made clearer, a few of the secondary characters need a bit more substance, and the prose, oh the prose could be lovelier and more precise. But it's much much better I think, and Bob thinks too, so that's a huge relief. Now we wait to see what my editor thinks of it...

We also decided to let HC go with the cover they really love for BiM, with some editing. I feel like a big prude, because essentially I was telling them I thought the cover was too explicit and over-the-top sexy -- who ever thought I would be on that side of that argument??? But it just didn't feel right for my book. They're going to tone the photo down a bit, and I think it's going to be fine. I actually think the colors and layout are really striking and inviting, so while I may still mourn my old cover for a bit, I think I can be happy with the new one too. As Jed says, "Change bad." Or at least it can feel bad, 'til you get used to it.
