I've scheduled my first interview! It's at the University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa), with a small creative writing faculty (six people), offering a
MFA in creative writing. Interestingly, one of the six also got her Ph.D. from the University of Utah, and not that long ago -- I'm sure I've heard people in the program mention her name. Wonder if that was a factor in their interest in me... I don't know a whole lot about the program yet, but I note that they publish
Black Warrior Review, a literary magazine with a nice reputation.
Eep.
We may have a dilemma soon, if I am lucky enough to get multiple interview requests. The Vermont program starts on the 28th, which is also the first day of MLA. I'm flying out of Philly at 3:30, which means leaving for the airport around 2, I think. Which means I can schedule very few interviews at MLA, unless people are willing to get up early on the 28th, or start the evening beforehand. Well, we'll just have to see how it goes...
Good luck with the interview! I believe Andy Duncan is teaching at UA (or he was the last time I talked to him), so you may have an sf-friendly person on the faculty.
Interestingly, I didn’t see Andy’s name on the faculty, but there’s a Sydney Duncan, who I think is Andy’s wife (based on her photo looking familiar and her having publications in LCRW :-).
Yup, that’s his wife.
