The pile of Things-to-Do…

The pile of Things-to-Do is getting more and more manageable -- to the extent that I've actually spent some time goofing off recently. I read a YA novel, Exodus, with a really excellent ending that made up for some rocky earlier bits. On Kev's recommendation, I read Haruki Murakami's South of the Border, West of the Sun, which was just beautiful, the best novel I've read in a while. And much shorter than the last one I read of his. :-) It has a speculative element, for all of you mainstream-lit-avoiders out there. And now I'm reading Louise Marley's The Maquiserade -- one of many free Tiptree books still sitting on my shevles. (If several jury members read a title and decided it wasn't relevant, we didn't all have to read it in order to decide. So now I'm going back and catching up on those books that I missed.) I also spent a few hours last night playing Final Fantasy X -- periodically, Kevin goes out and buys games, and this is a pretty fun one, though the movie sequences are a little longer than I'd ideally like. Still, he kept me company during them, and gave me advice on the actual game-playing, and rubbed my back and snuggled (while he read a math paper), so it was a pleasant way to spend an evening.

Kev and I are actually planning to have a talk, sometime soon. One of those big relationship talks. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, depending on some other parts of the schedule. (Lisette's in town, and I'm going to her sister's baby shower today, and maybe there'll be dinner tonight, so it's all a bit up in the air.) Maybe we'll end up talking today and tomorrow and even the next day -- it's a little unclear at this point whether this will be a short talk or a long one.

I was pretty stressed about this upcoming talk, for the last few days, but now, I feel calmer. If we can work it out, we will -- there's no shortage of willingness to make the effort, to compromise, to adapt. No shortage of love, on either side. And if we can't work out the long-term stuff -- well, it's been a pretty splendid year. Kev's treated me so well, and I've been awfully happy. I can't be sorry I came. I wouldn't have missed it.

More details as they become clear.

  1. You may want to get today’s NYTimes, as it has an impressive obituary in it of the Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. (on page B17)
