In addition to being a fine short fiction writer, Damon Knight had a tremendous effect on the speculative fiction genre. He founded SFWA, started the Nebula Awards, was one of the first critics to treat sf seriously as literature (see
In Search of Wonder), ran Clarion for twenty-five years, started the Milford workshops, and edited
Orbit in the 1960s.
