Well, it's 6 a.m., I've slept three hours, I'm *almost* done with my paper...and it's not clear whether I'm actually going to leave town today. It's the will of the gods, if not -- there's a massive snowstorm in Chicago. Half the flights there are cancelled -- mine isn't yet, but it could be at any time. I'll be checking on the hour, and will let you know if things change.
In the interim, I need to proceed as if I'm leaving on time -- which means that I do need to finish this last section of my paper, on alienation / marginality. I suppose, in some weird sense, it would be better not to go 'til tomorrow, because then I could get Jenn to review this, and I could get some sleep and then work on it some more, and it would be a better paper. Whereas all I'm going to do once I get to Chicago is veg out with Kev. But I was really looking forward to vegging out with Kevin. *grumble grumble*
Btw, in case I've been unclear about my travel plans; I'm going to be in Chicago from the 11th - 18th, then I'll be on the East Coast from the 18th - 28th. Probably NY for a day or two, then up to Boston for a few days if Todd and Debbie are around and will have me, then Christmas in CT with the folks, then back up to NY and out. Should be nice, if the gods don't go out of their way to make things difficult for me. I don't know what I've done to them lately that I should deserve special punishment, though. Nothing karmically awful, I think. I haven't taken the name of any particular god in vain. I don't think I even cursed them out in general while writing this paper, though I would surely have been justified if I had...
Anyway. More tea. Some toast. And then back to work. "Where there's a whip...there's a way. Where there's a whip...there's a way. We don't wanna go to war today, but the lord of the lash says [something rhyming with day]...gonna march all day all day all day -- where there's a whip there's a way."
2:00 p.m. First flight cancelled and rebooked. Finished paper. Second flight cancelled and rebooked. Handed in paper and grades. Third flight cancelled and rebooked for tomorrow at 2 p.m. So it's another full 24 hrs before I even leave here; I should've been there by now. I also slept about three hours, so I'm now feeling ill in addition to being cranky at the weather gods. I'm going to go read dumb fantasy novels until I fall asleep.
