We arrived yesterday evening at our writing retreat, at Harbin Hot Springs. I’ll be able to post limited photos, as a lot of the site is no-tech, because it’s clothing optional, and they want to be sure no one is taking photos of nekkid people. (It’s so no-tech that you’re not even supposed to use

“Fated,” a sequel to “Expulsion,” that they published last year. Very pleased. Between this and the Russ essay, it’s been a good publishing week. Maybe I should write more stuff.

My author copies of _Sleeper Straddle_ arrived! I’m looking forward to reading the whole book — so far, I’ve only read my own story. 🙂 I think this one should be a reasonable stand-alone, if you haven’t read Wild Cards before, although fans of The Sleeper will be delighted to get a book dedicated to

Schedule When I was diagnosed with cancer survivors told me the waiting was the worst. It wasn’t the worst, but it was pretty bad. Two months waiting to learn the staging, to formulate a plan. Once the plan was in place, I could cope — five months of chemo, then surgery and recovery, twelve weeks
George is going to be in Chicago briefly and contacted me and another SF writer friend about getting together for dinner. I, greatly daring, asked whether he might also be willing to stop by UIC and chat with my students. He said yes, which is awfully sweet of him to squeeze into his tight schedule.
