I planted my windowboxes up with ranunculus, tulips, hyacinth, mini daffodils, pansies, violets, alyssum, and one windowbox will be dedicated to spring salad greens, as soon as I get some new matting for it. They look gorgeous -- so bright and brave and cheery. It's already too dark to take good photos of them (grey and rainy day today), but I'll put photos up soon, I promise. I'm even happier to see that the bulbs we planted last fall (at the very last minute), in the narrow strip of soil in front of our building, are actually coming up. The crocuses are blooming, all white and purple and gold, and I think there are some daffodils getting ready to open. Yay! Somehow, I always expect the bulbs to fail, and I'm ridiculously pleased when they actually come up in the spring.
Soon, soon, the trees will start dressing in that pale new green, and then they'll start blooming. When I was younger, I used to think autumn was the best season -- which may have had something to do with growing up in New England and watching the leaves turn -- but now I am utterly convinced the spring is bestest of all. Hope and joy and little birdies. Which reminds me, time to put some some more birdseed...
If ever I would leave you,
How could it be in spring time,
Knowing how in spring I'm bewitched by you so?
Oh, no! not in spring time!
