Y’all, you didn’t TELL me that The Marvels included a Bollywood style song and dance, WHAT??? I would’ve hauled my butt to the theater to see that.
As it was, though, I’ve now bought it for $20 (I think you can buy it on either Prime or Apple TV+), watched it with Kevin, enjoyed it immensely, and think it’s likely to be in the background watch again as I work in the near future, because it was pretty much just delightful. I finished it and was very tempted to start it over.
It’s goofy at several points, in a similar way to Guardians of the Galaxy, so you have to be okay with that. But it’s just so much fun overall, and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) is an absolute treasure. Her fight scene with Fury was absolutely my favorite of the movie. And her mother, Muneeba Khan (Zenobia Shroff) continues immensely loving and irritating and hilarious, in the best South Asian mom tradition. I can only aspire to be a mom like her.
Interestingly, the cut scene (there’s just one) establishes something significant to the Marvel universe, but I’m going to try to avoid significant spoilers here, and please do the same in the comments, thanks!
