Onwards.

Writing accountability — took FOREVER to get going today, driving Kavi in because it’s so cold, then shoveling the sidewalk with Anand when I got back, then just restless and grumpy about needing to shovel. Finally wrote for 30 minutes, 509 words. Onwards.

“…most animals aren’t very smart, you know, not the way humans think about smartness. They don’t need a lot of language for their lives. So you could talk to – “

“ – a koel?”

He nodded. “Yes, a koel. But if it’s a male koel, it’s mostly going to be saying ‘look at me, look at me, how handsome I am, don’t you want to come make babies with me?’ It’s hard to get much sense out of them.”

Possibly a long day today — go to campus, finish class prep and teach, stay for job talk, school board phone meeting, grab something for dinner, and then if I have the energy, go to a writer meet-up for drinks up in Ravenswood. I like that kind of thing, but there’s a big part of me that says it’s winter, I should just crawl into my bed cave and hide whenever possible. Well, we’ll see.
