Just got a heads-up from the surgery department that my first reconstruction procedure carries a co-pay of $250. Since there will be 3-4 of them total, that means we need to budget $1000 for me to have a breast that looks more like it used to look. Is it worth $1000 to me? I had to stop and think about it.
The answer is yes, though I’m reserving the right to stop after the first procedure if it all seems like too much of a hassle. Grateful for having good insurance through my job (lucky), grateful that we can afford $1000 in extra medical expenses next year (as if all the gazillion $30 co-pays and other fees for the cancer in the past year weren’t enough), and that I can take the time off work if needed to have and recover from the procedures. Privilege.
