I think I would’ve written more today

Writing accountability: 30 minutes, 452 words. I think I would’ve written more today, but I blame the child (see screenshots). Oh well.

“If she’d taken the Oath, she’d have more power. That’s what her grandfather had said. Shanthi’s fists clenched at her sides; she could breathe again, but her belly ached. She leaned her forehead against the cold metal of the gate, waiting for the pain to subside. ‘We are part of a web of life…’ She’d memorized the words, of course, reading them over and over. She could recite them out loud right now.

And still, Shanthi hesitated. It felt wrong, deciding to take the Oath like this. For power, for vengeance. That wasn’t what this power was for…”
