Clarion West Teaching Starts Today

I may post some of the assignments and such here, if I think they’re potentially useful to others. Obviously, nothing confidential to the class and our students’ work!

Good morning, students! I haven’t discussed this assignment with Benjamin yet, because he’s still asleep, but I wanted to get it down before I forgot about it. (I have ADHD, and I forget about things a LOT when my attention is distracted by anything bright and shiny. I am a magpie, or perhaps a squirrel. Squirrel!)

In Sunday’s intros, lots of you talked about wanting to create more regular writing practice. This is, I think, one of the hardest but also most important parts of building a career as a writer — it’s not an office job, where someone will penalize you if you don’t do the work every day. You have to figure out how to make it possible to do the work (which may not be daily, but which should happen *persistently*).

That’s something that changes from person to person, but also over time — what worked for me as a 20-something just out of college completely failed when I was parenting an infant, for example. I had to pivot and adapt.

I have no rules for you, but I thought this would be a good place to talk about what’s worked for you, what hasn’t, what you’re thinking of trying, what you’ve heard about, etc. and so on.

I’ll post my own response to start, but am reserving the right to edit and expand on it if other things occur to me. I’m setting the due date for Friday, and making this optional (of course, everything is optional here, but this is especially so), but I encourage you to post in this thread anytime with your thoughts.
