Kasia’s Bakery

Stopped at Kasia’s Bakery in New Britain and brought Polish baked treats to the staff at my mom’s care facility. The woman behind the counter didn’t have much English, and I have even less Polish, but we managed to put an order together anyway. Smiling and pointing works pretty well.

I did manage a “dziękuję” for “thank you,” one of the last remnants of the four YEARS of Polish I took in elementary school at Holy Cross (I was close to fluent once upon a time, but if you don’t use it, you lose it). The man behind me in the line was charmed and amused, beaming while he said, “Bardzo dobrze!” — I’m pretty sure that means “good job!”

I try. 🙂
