This One’s for Me

A lot of what I’m sewing these days goes in the Patreon boxes, but this set, I’m keeping for myself. I saw these charming Misha Zadeh melamine plates at a garden store a few years ago, and I picked them up thinking they’d be perfect for lunch with friends in the garden.

I had a plan for napkins — I’d take my temple jasmine pattern, which I composed in summery, tropical colors, and I’d pair that with these plates for a COLOR EXPLOSION.

It’s always really satisfying when something that’s sort of a vague idea in your head actually works out. I decided to do reversible napkins (which uses twice as much fabric as a traditional napkin with mitered corners, BUT that just makes it feel more substantial, AND gives you even more color, AND is faster to sew).

If you use Spoonflower’s ‘fill-a-yard’ option, you can do 12 mitered napkins with two yards of fabric, or 6 reversible napkins, like this, using their recommended organic cotton sateen. Normally that’d be $58 for the fabric, but they’re running 20% off right now on cotton, so it’s $46.40, for a customized set of indie-designed napkins.

Funfun. 🙂 Now I just need some colorful plastic tumblers to make the table complete…
