I tried an early morning workout today, 6:30 a.m., and although I slept a little badly in anticipation of having to get up at 6 (actually woke up at 2, at 5, etc.), I gotta say, it feels incredibly virtuous to be lifting weights this early in the day. Surely I can now goof off and play video games for a few hours with no guilt?
But mostly I’m posting to mark two milestones:
• I have a whole bunch of geeky t-shirts that I love and that I bought pre-pandemic, when I was more fit; they’d gotten too tight to be comfortable or look good, but after about 4 months of working out twice a week with Liz Fairweather (she comes to my house, it’s amazing), they fit again, yay! I haven’t dieted or done much in the way of cardio in that stretch (though I’m planning to add some more of that), but just doing two additional hours of weights each week has built a lot of muscle and redistributed things; I think I’ve probably shifted at least a size (or maybe two) as a result.
• I can do push-ups! Real push-ups, with no cheating or anything. I’m not entirely sure how many I can do in a row, because whenever I think about finding out, I’m usually at the end of a workout, and too tired to try, but one of these days, I want to give it a shot early in the day and see what happens. Never in my life have I been able to do proper push-ups before, and it is very exciting.
Also, as a not inconsequential side benefit, digging in the garden is way easier than it used to be. I used to make Kevin come and dig for me, and these days, I don’t even bother asking him, because I can just do it. Yay!
