I’ve started on the process for looking for an agent who can represent everything I write. It is not easy, people. I tried putting together a list of some of the writers whose careers interest me, whose work has at least some overlap with my own (so I can ask them if they like their agents), and…um….let’s just say the list is very ECLECTIC at the moment. Which is my problem.
Roxane Gay
Tamora Pierce
Lori Rader-Day
Sam J. Miller
Annalee Newitz
Charlie Jane Anders
Becky Chambers
Lois McMaster Bujold
Nayomi Munaweera
Louise Erdrich
Eep. Feel free to suggest others, if there’s someone who is publishing books regularly, and whose work reminds you of mine in some way. The first step, I think, is making a big list and sending out a lot of e-mails, gathering info.
(Let us not even talk about cookbooks; I think that’ll have to be a completely separate agent, probably. Although maybe at the same agency?)
Thanks to Benjamin Rosenbaum, who helped me set this process in motion after I wailed at him about it for two hours on a MRAH podcast episode (forthcoming).
