17K

1400 new words on the YA novel, up to about 17K total. About a quarter of the way through, I think? I spent a while this morning plotting out the second quarter, and I think it’s pretty solid — now I just need to turn all those plot notes into scenes. Chugging along, chugging along.

It would be faster if I had no classes to teach, but on the other hand, being forced to take a break every day creates thinking time, so maybe the fantasy of hiding in the woods for a week and just writing the whole book in one frenzied go is only a fantasy after all.

If I keep on at this pace, I should have a full draft by the end of March. And then maybe I can get back to the SF novel! I haven’t forgotten you, my darling. You’re just harder to write.
