Started rice for lunch and cleaned up upstairs a bit while it was cooking. Kevin got us this fancy smart-logic rice cooker, which, admittedly, makes the best rice I've ever had, but it also takes 40 minutes to cook, instead of 20, which tries my patience. I'm eating leftover Ethiopian food that we tried to make -- the atakilt came out perfectly (easy), and the yemisir wat is fine, if a little bland. The doro wat I switched the two teaspoons paprika for two teaspoons chili, which brings it up to a satisfying level of hotness for me, and it's otherwise tasty, although a full 1/4 c. of berbere powder gives it a bit more grittiness than seems ideal to me. It seems very heavily spiced. Also, I really should have ground the cardamom seeds. But all in all, the curries all came out fine. The injera, though, was a total disaster. Not sour at all, and sort of bitter. Which is why we abandoned it for rice.
While cleaning, I also hung the last pieces of art in Kavi's room -- okay, not art, exactly. But big white wood letters, spelling out her name, which I find totally charming. Yes, I'm a sucker for over-priced items from Land of Nod. I can't really justify spending fifty dollars for art in a baby's room. But oh, so cute. :-) And I do love thinking that some day, she'll be able to read them...
