Just spent three really…

Just spent three really delightful hours with my editor and agent. :-) :-) :-) This is the sort of thing new writers dream about, being taken out to lunch by their editor, and I gotta say, it's just as good as you think it is.

We're in the honeymoon phase right now, I think -- everyone I met at HarperCollins seemed very excited about my book. Sandy, who works on sub-rights, just finished reading it last night, and claims to have loved it. :-) She's going to The Frankfurt Book Fair in three weeks with Brenda (I think her boss in sub-rights, not sure of the relationship?) who also seemed to like it quite a bit, where they will try to pin down foreign sales -- England, India, Australia and elsewhere. (Canada is covered already by the initial contract.) Fingers crossed -- it'd be lovely to have it available in other countries, and I think I might get some extra cash for that too. We'll see. :-)

Anyway, honeymoon phase. This is the point where everything is excitement and possibility. No one knows yet what the reviews will say, if Publisher's Weekly will love or hate it. Everyone is charming and happy and beautiful, and everyone is happy for your happiness. The wedding was splendid, but it'll be a while whether we find out if this is actually a good marriage or not. I plan to enjoy this while it lasts...
