Despite having lived here for almost two years, I've managed to remain completely ignorant about local politics. I have this vague sense that Chicago politics are historically corrupt, and likely to remain so. And it sounds like local gay groups aren't sure that marrying same-sex couples wholesale is the most effective thing to do now, and they might even be right. But I'm so pleased that Mayor Daley is willing to follow San Francisco's lead on this. Y'know -- it's one thing if S.F. does it, since everyone knows they're a bunch of whacked-out lunatic fringers. But Chicago...that'd be something else entirely. (I wonder what New York is thinking right now...) And the more politicians who stand up and say they're willing to do this, whether or not it happens right away, the better. So big cheers to Daley. Good job!
