We had an evening free after touring Scripps and Chapman, and Kavi wanted to visit Venice Beach. So we took friends’ advice (thanks, friends!), and started at the Canal Market. Spent some time this morning working on packing up Ann’s things from the assisted living facility and bringing them back here. Taking a break now, so going to spend some time catching up on college tour photo posting. This was Some Crust bakery near Scripps — the recommended chocolate croissant was delicious.

UC Santa Cruz tour 10-12. What should we do after the tour? We’re staying in Los Gatos, so if it matters when we drive back, factor that in.

Made it to San Jose, very little signal on the Coast Starlight, so basically forced offline for day, which was honestly pretty relaxing. Kavi says she could live on the train. Will catch up on travel commentary soon. Here’s a pic of Kavi from Venice Beach for now.

Quick review of Occidental on the college tour, mostly to say that we liked it, and Kavi will almost certainly be applying there. I particularly like the 9:1 faculty-student ratio. The architecture is a nice blend of historic and modern, and it feels like a very livable and comfortable campus, with a serene, outdoorsy vibe.

Chapman tour! So, Kev and I didn’t know much about Chapman before starting Kavi’s college search — it made the list because it’s in Southern California, and she’s strongly interested in CA generally, and because it seems like a solid school that would be a safety for her. The tour kind of turned us off
