We hung out on Venice beach itself for about an hour — good sand, good swimming. Not super-crowded on a Tuesday evening. Kevin was a little surprised that we did extra driving to go do sightseeing stuff while visiting colleges, but I really wanted Kavi to get a little bit of a sense of what

Nice walk down to Venice Beach, passing the canals. Some fun houses and graffiti along the way.

We had an evening free after touring Scripps and Chapman, and Kavi wanted to visit Venice Beach. So we took friends’ advice (thanks, friends!), and started at the Canal Market. We ended up parking our car and leaving it there, because it was only a 10 minute walk down to the beach. (Beach parking is

Spent some time this morning working on packing up Ann’s things from the assisted living facility and bringing them back here. Quick review of Occidental on the college tour, mostly to say that we liked it, and Kavi will almost certainly be applying there. I particularly like the 9:1 faculty-student ratio. The architecture is a nice blend of historic and modern, and it feels like a very livable and comfortable campus, with a serene, outdoorsy vibe.

Chapman tour! So, Kev and I didn’t know much about Chapman before starting Kavi’s college search — it made the list because it’s in Southern California, and she’s strongly interested in CA generally, and because it seems like a solid school that would be a safety for her. The tour kind of turned us off
Thanks, Chapman. Maybe we’ll be back. Read More »
