Butterfly! Flutterby! With phlox, cardinal flower, hollyhock, hydrangea, gooseneck loosestrife.
I am giving myself bonus points for finishing the chapter revisions today with a very distracting HUMMINGBIRD visiting my garden. Failed to take photos so far, but that’s okay. It likes the butterfly bush, and the phlox, and maybe even the roses? HUMMINGBIRD!!!

Hm. Seek thinks this is cypress spurge, but I’m pretty sure this is a native I bought through West Cook Wild Ones, and cypress spurge is European. Anyone know what native to Illinois it might be?
Seek tells me that this is Hubei anemone (Japanese anemone), which is possible? It’s right next to the rose mallow, and looked similar enough that for a little while, I though it was the same plant, but now I can see differences. If so, I’ll be happy — I’ve tried to plant Japanese anemone at
