Serendib Garden

Uploading videos for teaching, which is very slow, which means it’s a good time to post garden photos.  Black Plum tomatoes.

You know, my feed is suddenly full of criticism of Melania Trump’s re-do of the White House gardens, and I have to say, as a gardener, I strongly disagree, and it makes me angry every time I see it. The comments about her coldness, etc. seem particularly sexist, in the ‘frigid bitch’ style of critique.

I didn’t pick this up, but thought about it. Native spiky bear’s breeches. Cool plant. Maybe next time.

I needed some mulch and pea gravel so swung by a garden store at lunch today. Caught a slightly blurry monarch on the lantana. 

I need a better system for labelling — I wrote with what I’m pretty sure was a Sharpie on a blue plant tag, and it’s completely washed away, so I don’t know what this is. (Maybe “Brad’s Atomic Grape”?) What do you use that’s reliable for marking plants, and will last through a season of

The “Blue Berries” tomatoes are just fun to watch ripen (and are also v. tasty). 

Heh. I didn’t do the best job of tying up my row of tomato plants, or trimming off suckers, so this is kind of a mess, but still, it basically works, and let me fit in a lot more varieties than I could’ve otherwise. All still green, alas, but lots of little cherry tomatoes on

Adding the trellises does help it look more like a working veg. garden. Someday, I will turn it into the potager of my dreams, perhaps.
