This is the outside dining area at the Galle Face Hotel, in Colombo, Sri Lanka. We stayed there for three luxurious days at the start of our trip, and it was just blissful. There are more modern hotels in Colombo, fully-air-conditioned and the like, but there's nothing to beat Galle Face's antique charm (built in 1864). The ocean breezes waft so pleasantly through the large halls.
I just framed this photo I took in 2005, to hang in our dining room. (Funny, yes? :-) It looks great there, matted in grey against a dark red wall. It's titled 'Dining by the Sea' -- I'm not a skilled photographer, but every once in a while, I get a shot I love. This is one of my favorites. When we're having our dinners in a dark Chicago winter, here's a place to dream of.
