I’m starting to wonder…

I'm starting to wonder if the Demimonde Kickstarter project is good for me. Both yesterday morning and this morning, I've woken up feeling stressed and anxious about whether enough people are going to support the project. Wondering if any pledges came in while I was sleeping. Wondering if I should have set the goal amount lower (but I did try to set it at the right level to make the whole project worthwhile and do-able). Wondering if people actually do like my writing, or if everyone who said they did before was just lying to make me feel better, and yes, I know how ridiculous that sounds, but this is exactly the sort of thing that triggers all kinds of writerly anxieties. Argh. ARGH!!!

I'm not sure I have the emotional fortitude for this job. Although I'm not sure writing a novel and then waiting for my agent to try to sell it (or worse, sending it out hoping to find an agent) is any easier. The life of the working artist -- not as simple as it looks! :-)

Still trying to figure out what's the best way to get the word out. I mean, it makes sense that there'd be an initial rush of donors, and then it would trail off, but I think that does mean that if I want this to have a shot of working, I need to keep doing things to keep me and the project in the public eye. Advertising wisdom says that you need to tell people about a product ten times before they're ready to buy, even if it's a product they like and want to have. I imagine that in this economy, that maybe needs to be multiplied by a few factors, since people's resistance to spending money is much higher. And I can't blame them -- but at the same time, people are still reading books, and I'm pretty sure a lot of them would like mine.
