I'm not sure I have the emotional fortitude for this job. Although I'm not sure writing a novel and then waiting for my agent to try to sell it (or worse, sending it out hoping to find an agent) is any easier. The life of the working artist -- not as simple as it looks! :-)
Still trying to figure out what's the best way to get the word out. I mean, it makes sense that there'd be an initial rush of donors, and then it would trail off, but I think that does mean that if I want this to have a shot of working, I need to keep doing things to keep me and the project in the public eye. Advertising wisdom says that you need to tell people about a product ten times before they're ready to buy, even if it's a product they like and want to have. I imagine that in this economy, that maybe needs to be multiplied by a few factors, since people's resistance to spending money is much higher. And I can't blame them -- but at the same time, people are still reading books, and I'm pretty sure a lot of them would like mine.
Hey, if you have a blog that could maybe use a guest blogger who looks like me, I'm putting it out there -- I would love to write a blog post for you. This month only, I am very available. I don't even have to talk about Demimonde -- I'm happy to talk on a topic of your choice, assuming it's a topic that I know anything about. Writing, editing, academia, parenting, gardening, knitting & crochet, home renovation -- any of the above. Use me. I'm yours.
Hi Mary Anne,
A friend recommended your blog to me, and I’ve really enjoyed reading it. I would love to have you guest post on my blog, if the offer’e still open. I don’t have a ton of followers right now, as I only began blogging regularly in the past 6 months, but I get a lot of hits since I’ve been writing on it consistently, and I’d promote your post (I’ve got a few thousand followers on FB and Twitter, respectively).
Check it out at: http://jcandrijeski.blogspot.com and let me know if you would be interested. Generally speaking, I write about writing (also a writer) and my experiences in India, where I currently live (I’m American by birth/culture).
Thanks! And no harm no foul if you’re not interested.
