Tree removal is being scheduled. I am on the one hand very mopey to be cutting down trees. That just seems wrong, wrong, wrong. But we had tree guys come out and look at them, and all the ones we're taking down are either rotten on the inside (and thus almost certain to fall down, possibly crushing someone, in the next 5-10 years -- that one's a mulberry), or growing directly into fences and power lines (more mulberries and a couple of elms), or invasive. (We have a massive Tree of Heaven, with several ugly offshoots to dig up.)
This does mean more sunshine in our backyard, which is good. Fun for kids, happy for herbs and vegetables and roses. But even if we plant trees (maybe oaks), it's going to be a long, long time before they get tall enough to give us pretty green stuff outside our second-story windows. Sigh.
