Maybe it was worth running after all.

There are times when I feel really frustrated on school board, when I just can’t make any headway on things that seem important (like a later start time!). But these two items from tonight’s board meeting make me really happy.

1) Making real, measurable strides in closing the equity gap in math for our students, and improving the results for ALL students, AHEAD of scheduled goals. The math department is going to be setting some new goals now. Big kudos to them!

(FRL is free and reduced lunch, just fyi.)

2) Adding student representation to the board — this was something that Gina HarKirat Harris really advocated for when she was on the board; it took some time, but after much discussion and revision of proposals (and with board member Audrey T. Williams doing yeoman work on the project), it was approved last night.

Really pleased with both of those. Maybe it was worth running after all.

And hey, tonight’s board meeting was only 2.5 hrs. Excellent.
