Luckily, I don’t have too much I have to do

Another bad RLS night, 3 hrs sleep, dammit. Luckily, I don’t have too much I have to do today:

• 9 a.m. — go swim at Y
• 12 noon — SLF Zoom meeting
• around 1 p.m. — drive Kavi to Kankakee (about an hour and a half away), so she can take the ACT.

It’s a little extra hassle to take the ACT (not the current default at her high school), but a college advisor friend suggested that Kavi might do better on the math portion of it than the SAT, because the ACT isn’t set up to make the questions harder if you do well (I hope I’m remembering this right, don’t quote me on this, I can’t even remember the name for this type of testing model).

We’ve been frustrated because Kavi would clearly benefit from extra time on tests, but we were refused that accommodation by both the high school and the testing organization (despite having a neuropsych assessment done that recommended it). If we’d gotten on all of this sooner (her sophomore year instead of her junior), we might’ve had time to appeal and get her the accommodation.

As it is, though, Kavi’s just going to have to do what she can in limited time — frustrating, because she does SO much better in untimed math tests.

Oh well. We’ll see if she does better with the ACT test style — possibly. And if not, it’s not the end of the world; she’ll be fine, and I’ll get to drive down to Kankakee with her. On quick glance, there doesn’t seem to be anything particularly interesting to do in Kankakee this afternoon / evening, but if I’m missing something, do let me know.

We’ll hang out at the hotel pool, probably watch some Friends re-runs (her current show), get dinner, try to get to bed early and hopefully she’ll get good sleep (she’s been having a hard time with that lately too) and hopefully I can coax her to eat some breakfast before the test (she doesn’t love food in the morning, typically).

Back tomorrow afternoon.
