My Little Resin Set-Up

This is my little resin set-up. I had very strictly told myself that until I finished cleaning up and organizing the basement, I wasn’t allowed to play with resin, but I DID manage to get that done before the semester started (JUST BARELY), and so yesterday I spent some time playing with resin.

Notes so far:

– I figured out that I could just move my sewing chair over to this table, so I could work sitting down some of the time, which is definitely easier on my back

– I love making little botanical jewelry pieces — they’re just so stupidly PRETTY

– rosa “The Fairy” and “Lovely Fairy” work particularly well for giving that old timey romantic look and being small enough to fit into pendants

– some of my favorite pieces are the ones with very fine detail, like the tiny little strands at the top of that pair of earrings; resin is great for capturing that

– I’m trying to think a little more seasonally, so I was aiming for autumn colors with the pieces I made yesterday — but in my garden, I have a lot of pink and purple mums, monkshood, etc., so for me, autumn has always had pink and purple in addition to yellows and oranges and reds. I’m not sure they’ll read as ‘autumn’ to anyone else, but oh well. I must follow my artistic VISION.

– I may edge some of these in gold or copper (which you apply with a liquid paint pen) — thinking about it. I’ll probably leave some clear

– these pieces (and the ones from yesterday) will probably show up in a September flash sale, comment below if you’d like to be tagged in

– one of the fun things to think about with pendants in particular (as opposed to earrings) is that they’ll be laying on your skin, so your skin tone becomes part of the composition of the piece. Cool.

– I have no idea what the flowers are in the last one, or in the pair of earrings — something I picked and dried a year or two ago. I should start labelling these as I dry them!

– I like the hex shapes best, I think. 🙂
