Back to Kavi’s sari day brunch — first photo is with her Great-Auntie Prishantha. (She’s the youngest of my mom’s eight siblings, only a year older than me, so it is amusing me to refer to her as a Great-Auntie…)
If you’re wondering why Kavi is wearing two different saris in these pictures, it’s because she just couldn’t pick between them — the blue and gold was elegant, the pink seemed festive and fun. Finally we said, hey, there’s two events with an hour between — there’s no reason NOT to do a costume change. It’s your party, after all!
The blue and gold sari was from Devon (and I do adore the lotus flower motif on the blouse, beautiful embroidery), the pink one was found online at Utsav and shipped from India — it takes a little longer, and you don’t always know the quality of what you’re getting, but the prices can’t be beat.
If you can’t bargain like my mother, shopping for saris on Devon can be quite expensive, especially if you have champagne taste, as apparently we do. (Champagne taste on a beer budget, as they say.)
The pink sari (not pictured here, but link to buy in comments), was $80 + $24 for a made-to-measure blouse that fit her perfectly. We call it Kavi’s ‘pretty pretty princess’ sari.
