I woke up at 5 a.m. for some ungodly reason, so I ended up making up a new recipe and making 48 redbud blossom spring glory mini muffins, and that was lovely (Anand has already eaten a good dozen of them, because he decided to have them for breakfast AND lunch — he’s apparently hit the teenage boy stage when he has started consuming mountains of food…).
Then I went to campus and taught, and then I came home and thought, oh, it’s early enough, I can make a proper dinner for a change, so I made breakfast for dinner — bombatoast and bacon, with roasted potatoes, onions, and bell pepper (which will also go nicely with the chicken curry I have leftover in the fridge). (I was going to make scrambled eggs too, but everyone seemed fine with what I’d made already, so I stopped.)
And that was all great, or so I thought, but I haven’t had much time to cook the last few months, between travel and work and family matters. Do you see where this is going?
It turns out that if I cook two full meals’ worth of food in one day, my upper back says, “Whoa! You are out of practice with this, and what made you think you could just dive back in like that? You’re 51 years old, y’know, lady. You have to ease into these things. Go sit on the couch until I stop complaining.”
And then my index finger jumps into the action and says, “Here, let me lock up for a good thirty seconds or so, just to give you a taste of the arthritis that is likely coming your way in not too long, and maybe you should’ve had Kevin do some of the onion chopping after all. You know he would have…”
So I have taken to my bed, and shortly will take to my bath, but hey, I kind of liked the effect of my hair when I was teaching today, so here’s a photo from my Zoom today (one of my students was sick, but not so sick that she couldn’t Zoom in to give her critique, so I let her) — the silver-gold two-tone is fun, I think.
Please ignore the slightly terrifying expression. I think I was trying to smile, but my eyes decided to do something frightening and weird instead. Really, my whole body appears to be in revolt today…
