Anand hasn’t seen real waves in quite a while (2+ years?) and was pretty entranced. He and Kavi spent a while playing a game with the waves — they stood just above where the wave hit the top of the sand, and then if the wave didn’t reach them, they took a step forward.
Repeat until you suddenly get a wave that sends you scurrying back, and if you’re smart, you’ll actually turn and run, or else you’ll get caught like Anand did and end up with wet sneakers and socks, which you will regret for the rest of the outing.
I had no grounds to tease him for that, even if I’d been so inclined, because I’d already gotten my feet soaked when I was distracted trying to take a photo of a pelican. Sneaky waves!
