Two weeks from now, you (if you live in the Chicagoland area) are cordially invited to a spooky tea party at Serendib House in Oak Park, celebrating the launch of my award-winning former student Lori Rader-Day‘s fabulous new murder mystery, _Death at Greenway_.
The New York Times calls it “Irresistible…a Golden Age homage, an elegantly constructed mystery that on every page reinforces the message that everyone counts.” It’s set at Agatha Christie’s home, which she opened to children sent away from London during World War II. It’s a really lovely, literary novel, and I’m delighted to be able to celebrate this launch with her.
We’re serving the same tea served at the Greenway cafe, and planning all the classic tea party items, with a Sri Lankan twist — my ribbon sandwiches, cucumber & butter sandwiches, scones and clotted cream and jam, love cake and mango-passionfruit mimosas, etc. and so on. Centuries & Sleuths Bookstore will have books on hand (and we’ll be selling my cookbooks as well).
Come as you are, or in your tea party finery! (I will be at least a little dressed up, because I can’t resist.)
COVID NOTES: The event will be mostly outdoors, presuming the weather permits — up-to-date vaccinations highly appreciated and suggested; please wear masks when inside the house.
ACCESS NOTE: My house is an old Victorian, so there are some steps up to the front door and it’s not wheelchair accessible, but we’ll have some tables set up in the garden so all can participate.
