I actually took a vacation day today. An entire day, when I didn’t try to do any work, or even any housework. Okay, I watered the front yard for ten minutes this morning. But other than that — Roshani and I took our kids to the beach, where we mostly lounged for six hours, with some eating and lake-bathing and reading (I’m reading Leviathan Wakes, which sort of kind of counts as SF research, I suppose, but was also just fun). And then we came back to my place, ordered pizza, and I taught her, her husband, and their eldest daughter Dominion. A lovely day all around.
My goal for this summer is to take at least one week’s worth of actual vacation days like this. (Work-related travel does not count.) One down, six to go. We’ll see if I manage it!
