Cancer log 93: Lovely / helpful things. I've gotten behind on sending thank-you's for the little presents and such that people have been sending me. Cheery cards, fluffy reading material, etc. They are all appreciated, and at least I can say so here, even if if some of you chose to send them anonymously, so I can't thank you directly. Thanks! Pictured here is a lovely warm thing that Jarmila knit me, along with a pretty tea thingie.

I also wanted to note that one of the most concretely useful gifts were the lavender bath salts that Sharms sent some months back -- I didn't use them for a while, but this last week, I've been a) stressed, b) sickly, and c) having a hard time getting comfortable temperature-wise -- I've found that taking a hot bath with them has been really helpful for getting my body regulated enough that I could get to sleep. There was one night at 3 a.m. when they were a real sanity-saver.

The main other thing that has gotten me through this past week, esp. since I couldn't seem to handle screens without making myself more sick, was re-reading favorite print books. Lois McMaster Bujold, Terry Pratchett, and Jennifer Crusie have gotten me through. I have been so grateful for light-hearted, fast-paced, dialogue-heavy fiction. There are times when I get all stressed out that my writing isn't 'serious' enough these days; this has been a good reminder that there's tremendous value to the delightful literary romp.
