Hey, Oak Park / River Forest folks! Do you have kids at OPRF, or expect to in a few years? Would you like a clearer understanding of what issues the high school is dealing with?
Are you exhausted by national politics, and would like a chance to just focus on something small and local, that will affect you and your family directly, and where your vote next month can make a real difference?
I’d like to encourage you to consider getting a little more involved with local politics. There are a lot of candidate forums happening now (many recorded). And there are various meet-ups — if you haven’t been to a local candidate meet-and-greet before, it’s typically a very low-key kind of thing.
You’re not going to be asked for money — it’s just a chance to hear directly from the candidates, and ask your questions directly. If you’re new to direct political involvement, attending a meet-and-greet is a great first step.
I’m hosting one next Tuesday evening for four D200 candidates (Fred Arkin, Audrey Williams-Lee, Kathleen O’Dell, and write-in candidate David Schaafsma, along with a rep. for Vicki Scaman (running for village president, has a board meeting that night, or she’d be there too).
I’ll be cooking some delicious treats, and would very much like to feed some of you, and answer any questions you have for me as well. (I’m finishing my 4-year term on the D200 board at the end of April.)
