Project Rest and Relax is underway. (Yes, I still have a few outstanding things, I slept three hours last night as I raced to get everything done that had to be done before getting on a plane, and as a result had no brain today, hope to knock them out tomorrow morning after a full night’s sleep.)
Read a fair bit of A Fate Inked in Blood on the plane, romantasy with lots of brutal Norse stuff, if you like that kind of thing. I sometimes do, but I’m honestly so tired, I couldn’t read anything challenging today, which is mostly why I tried this book that someone recommended. I’ll finish it, but wouldn’t say I love it. Check it out if the genres appeal.
Wrote a bit of something silly on the plane for half an hour or so. “Loveen is aptly named, because our planet loves you. At least, that’s the best explanation we’ve found for the strange phenomena that occur here. If there’s something you want, be careful – because someone or something will try to give it to you.” We’ll see if it turns into anything real.
Once we were settled into our hotel rooms (around 2 p.m.), some of us collapsed in our beds and others of us collapsed by the pool. You can guess which family members chose what. I actually swam, yay! Didn’t make it out to the beach, but hope to spend a lot of time there tomorrow.
Finished watching Man on the Inside with Kevin (sweet, sad at points, often funny, recommended, though with content notes for anyone who’s dealt with or is dealing with end of life and aging concerns, especially re: memory care. Netflix). Watched first episode of Black Doves (Netflix), spy thriller that so far is pretty sharply written and also often funny, featuring Keira Knightley.
Watched the Beyond Paradise Christmas special, which was totally charming and joyful. Was frustrated to realize that I can’t watch the Dr. Who Christmas special until I get back to the U.S. (Disney+, would possibly be able to do with a VPN, but that doesn’t seem worth the effort.) No spoilers!
Mostly really enjoyed the weather. The temperature and moisture of the air on my parched Chicago winter skin is positively therapeutic. I’m not sure I need all the hotel stuff, nice as some of it is. Just the air is enough to seduce me here.
And look, I got a pedicure. That hasn’t happened in many months. My feet are thanking me. I have eaten a LOT of pineapple today. The palm trees are very soothing. The sunset was gorgeous. I’m starting to feel more like a person again, rather than a machine for productivity.
