1) One small victory from last night — Oak Park voted in ranked choice voting. This is unlikely to make much difference in our suburb on a practical level, but in larger terms, ranked choice voting is a better, fairer system.

2) I was explaining the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact to a friend this morning (a friend upset about the electoral college) — I think this is our best path to abolishing it, by first going state-by-state and getting folks to agree to hold to the popular vote. I don’t think we’re going to get a top-down abolishment anytime soon, so probably this is our best shot? I’m not an expert in any of this, feel free to correct me. Wikipedia has a good explanation, including some potential legal issues with this approach: https://en.wikipedia.org/…/National_Popular_Vote…

3) I’m not sure where we are on gerrymandering right now. Trump likes to talk about stolen elections, but if anything has stolen your vote, it’s gerrymandering. (And both sides do it, to my deep frustration.)

If you’re looking for a place to focus your energies for the next four years, might I suggest vote reform and voter’s rights?

Let’s do this better. Let’s have every voice actually heard.
