Thinking about bringing back the Small Press Co-op

Query for the group mind. We’ve been thinking about bringing back the Small Press Co-op at the SLF; when it existed, it was primarily a forum for presses to exchange advice and information, and to share tables at dealer’s rooms at conventions. There’s undoubtedly more we could do that would be useful, and in this iteration, we’d be opening it up to single-author indie publishers as well.

Back in the day, it was an e-mail list. My question is what is the ideal format for it today. My sense is that my students and folks in their 20s rarely use e-mail.

They’re mostly comfortable with Discord, as is the next generation up, and pick up Slack pretty fast if they haven’t used it previously. Gen X folks like me are maybe not so familiar with those two, but I think we adapt reasonably well. We do use things like Facebook groups, but I’m reluctant to attach ourself to Facebook or similar social media platform. Boomers may be unfamiliar with most of these, and most comfortable with e-mail, but I just don’t have faith that that’s going to work for most folks right now.

In theory, we could custom-build a forum, but at least initially, I feel like Slack actually addresses most of our needs.

Thoughts?

(And we’d definitely want robust moderation; if you’d be interested in volunteering as one of a team of moderators, let me know.)
