Scene: Kavi and I checking out at convenience store in hotel.
Me: [tries to ask clerk for butter in Spanish, runs out of vocabulary, turns to Kavi, whose vocabulary is a little better than mine right now]
Kavi: Mantequilla.
Me to clerk: Si, mantequilla, por favor!
Me to Kavi: See, our Spanish is getting so much better by coming down here. We should come here ALL THE TIME, so we can become fluent in Spanish.
Sales clerk, an older woman, laughing: [in Spanish, says something like: oh, yes, everyone comes to Miami to practice their Spanish, not for the gorgeous weather, the beautiful beaches, the delicious food…]
Me, very seriously: Si, exactamente!
I’m glad she understood me, and agreed. 🙂

We also come for the wacky lizards. This pic courtesy Kavi!
